Max LE VERRIER realized his monkey with the umbrella, in front of the cages of the Jardin des Plantes in Paris. His model, a three-years-old chimpanzee was nicely named BOUBOU. A beautiful friendship was born between the monkey and the artist, an animal enthusiast… BOUBOU hold by the zookeeper outside of the cage, agreed to pose in exchange for bananas. Every morning, the monkey was looking towards the entrance waiting for the man who was going to immortalize it in the bronze.
This sculpture awarded a medal at the Humorist Exhibition in 1927.
