Louis Octave Maxime LE VERRIER was born in Neuilly sur Seine, on 29 January 1891. His mother was Belgian and his father was a Parisian goldsmith and jeweler.

His parents divorced when he was only 7 years old and Max attended different boarding schools such as the Collège de Verneuil sur Avre. He was a brilliant student in many subjects including drawing.

His father, who thought that his future would be farming, sent Max against his wishes to study agriculture in specialized schools of Saint Sever and La Réole in Gironde. Graduated, Max returned to Paris at the age of 16 and refused to leave to a French colony to work on a plantation.

Then his father emancipated him, and as a result, he was left to fend for himself.
