BELLUAIRE

Reference:

Height: 56 cm
Length: 59 cm

This sculpture was made in the 1930’s.
The lion was sculpted from a live model in front of the cages of the BOUGLIONE circus at the Jardin d’Acclimatation in Paris. The man was an Italian professional model.

At that time, whole Italian families posed for painters and sculptors, from the grandfather down to the grandson. These professionals had a lot of work at the end of the19th century. We could find them posing in large paintings, signed J.P LAURENS for example. This item, BELLUAIRE, reminds the games of the circus dating back to the Roman time.
