DON QUICHOTTE ET SANCHO PANCA is the last important sculpture of Max LE VERRIER.
For the outfits, Max LE VERRIER drew his inspiration from pictures of the movie « Les années 30 » with CHALIAPINE playing the leading role, a great Russian opera singer.
For the scrag nag Rossinante, Max LE VERRIER found in the back of a stable at the Vaugirard slaughterhouse, an old horse which was supposed to be killed the following day. This poor thin gaunt animal was the perfect model. The artist did not hesitate to buy it from the horse trader and placed it in a Normandy farm, where it died three years after posing.
Concerning Sancho Pança’s mount, Max sculpted one of the little donkeys of the Champs de Mars carousel under the Eiffel tower who was bringing happiness to children every day.
