HISTORY

This sculpture was made in the 1930’s.
The lion was sculpted from a live model in front of the cages of the BOUGLIONE circus at the « Jardin d’Acclimatation » located in the « Bois de Boulogne ». The man was an Italian professional model.

It is interesting to know that whole Italian families posed for painters and sculptors, from the grandfather down to the grandson at that period .
These professionals of the pose had a lot of work at the end of the19th century. They posed for large paintings, such as J.P LAURENS’ style and «Pompier» , artists of that time.

This item, BELLUAIRE, reminds the games of the circus dating back to the Roman time.
