HISTORY
It was in front of the cages of the « Jardin des Plantes » that Max LE VERRIER realised his monkey with the umbrella. It was a chimpanzee who was 3 years old nicely named « BOUBOU ».
A beautiful friendship was born between the monkey and the artist.
BOUBOU hold by the zoo keeper outside of the cage, agreed to pose in return for bananas. Furthemore every morning, the monkey looked towards the entrance waiting for the man who was going to immortalize it in the bronze.
This sculpture awarded a medal at the « Humorist Exhibition » in 1927.
