Max LE VERRIER realised his last important sculpture « DON QUICHOTTE ET SANCHO PANCA » according to some documents.

For the costumes, Max LE VERRIER drew his inspiration from pictures of the movie « les années 30 » with CHALIAPINE playing the leading role, a great Russian opera singer.

For the scrag nag, Max LE VERRIER found at the back of a stable at the Vaugirard slaughterhouse, (still in activity at that time) an old horse which was supposed to be killed the following day. This poor thin gaunt animal was the perfect model.
Max LE VERRIER did not hesitate to buy it from the horse trader saving the horse’s life at the same time.
It died of a natural death three years after posing, on a Normandy farm where Max LE VERRIER has placed it.

Concerning the Sancho Pança’s donkey, it was one of the little donkeys of the « Champs de Mars » under the EIFFEL tower, that posed, in its stable in the back of a courtyard located in the 15th district, headquarters of around twenty donkeys who made children happpy every day.
